On June 11, 2025, at the 2nd floor hall of the Hanoi National University of Civil Engineering library, the 2025 Sustainable Hackathon was officially launched. This event was organized by Hanoi University of Civil Engineering in collaboration with SBVN – Program Promoting Sustainable Buildings in Vietnam, with professional support from Edeec – strategic partner in the field of green construction.

2025 Sustainable Hackathon is an academic playground exclusively for students majoring in Architecture, Engineering and Construction Economics, focusing on designing energy efficient buildings, aiming at sustainable development goals and Net Zero.

The competition is professionally sponsored by three faculties of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering:

  • Architecture & Planning,
  • Construction Economics & Management
  • Environmental Engineering

In addition, SBVN is accompanying the role of a consultant and professional companion with green and sustainable building design experts, committed to bringing modern design thinking and advanced construction simulation applications closer to young students.

With 9 interdisciplinary teams, the competition creates conditions for students to approach real working models, combining design – engineering – economic thinking. The opportunity for the teams to learn, connect with experts in the industry and develop their careers, along with the total prize of the competition up to 30 million VND, promises to be a great motivation for the contestants.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Giang – Vice President of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering – emphasized that: 2025 Sustainable Hackathon is not only a competition, but also a practical training model, where students work in multidisciplinary teams as in a real professional environment, combining design, engineering and economic thinking.

In the coming time, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering will continue to pioneer educational innovation, accompanying organizations such as SBVN to build a training platform towards green buildings, energy-efficient buildings, meeting the requirements of green transformation and Vietnam’s Net Zero goals”.

Ms. Le Phuong Anh, Director of SBVN Program shared: “Hackathon is the first activity in Vietnam focusing on energy-efficient construction for engineering and construction students. When participating, students will have access to effective construction design methods, use specialized software, work with real data and present solutions to a panel of experts.

The outcomes are not just quality solutions, but also outstanding maturity in sustainable development thinking, which is of particular interest to employers and international organizations”.

The competition will officially start from June 23. After passing the Project round, the best candidates will go to the Final Round and Workshop taking place at the end of August.

At SBVN, we believe that training a generation of sustainable engineers is not only the task of universities, but also the responsibility of construction enterprises. Participation in 2025 Sustainable Hackathon is part of Edeec’s long-term effort to connect academia with practice, inspire innovation and align with the national Net Zero goal.
